Yesterday I read an article on Christianity in Sub-Saharan Africa. There was one point that stuck out the most. The article asked what kind of influence western movies, television, and music have had on Africa. The overwhelming majority agreed that morality has been hurt. Yet, in the very next breath, about the same percentage stated that they like western movies, television, and music.
What does this say about them? Am I any different? I would whole-heartedly agree that western movies, television, and music typically stand in opposition to the Gospel. The values and ideas expressed almost always go against Scripture, and undoubtedly have an influence and effect on our lives. Yet, we like it!
This reminds me of Romans 1:21-23, “For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images…
Do you remember what happens in the following verses? God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts! For they exchanged the truth of God for a Lie! What will be said of me? What will be said of you?
