From our TTI National Director in the Congo:
Rural Goma is run by over 50 different rebel groups fighting within the state. They rape, murder, loot and maim at will. Two TTI trainers were
killed in the unrest and another’s wife was raped by rebels. Still another was attacked and his wife slashed and left for dead. Yet, in the midst of this chaos, our hearts are not discouraged and the Gospel continues to gain ground.
52 churches have reproduced in the last one year and the current tally stands at 422 churches meeting every week in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Only TTI training center has been adversely affected by the fighting. Of the 22 churches that were planted by the students, only 2 are standing. All of the students in that training center have been displaced and are currently in different refugee camps. The trainer says that he has not been able to contact any students but only two whose churches are still standing. However he is optimistic that the other churches continue to thrive in whatever camps the people ran to following the heavy fighting in their area.
A different training center was also raided by the rebels and many of the villagers fled to different camps some as far as Uganda. 6 students moved with their churches into the refugee camps and have seen those churches reproduce and give birth to another 6 in the past couple of months. There are some students from the other centers that are also continuing to shepherd their churches in different camps.
In the midst of all this is a dire lack of Bibles. Some centers have students sharing Bibles and in some cases these Bibles are incomplete. And there is an interesting story here. Whenever the rebels raid villages, Bibles have become a must-loot. Apparently the rebels hold worship services on Saturdays and they need the Bibles for their fellowships.
Believing that no word that comes from God goes back to Him void, there is optimism among the local Christians that indeed one day the DRC will become a beacon of light from where God will reach out to the continent. God in His wisdom is reaching out to the rebels and many of our TTI trainers testified that they were allowed to pass through some of the rebel strongholds to come to the TTI training. Heal Africa an organization working in DRC also testifies that the rebels have allowed them to actually go where they are. Pray with the Christians in DRC that God would in His time bring every soul to Christ and particularly among the rebel strongholds.
The enemy may have meant the war for evil but God is using it for good. Pray that believers will continue to submit themselves to their faithful creator and continue to do good. A bright light will one day shine from the thick forests of the Congo to the furthest ends of the world but brightest in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
